Oxford Hammers Guide to "getting to the game"

There is an obvious problem for most Oxford Hammers - getting to the games. It's a bit of a job actually getting to games, so on this page we will list how we get to each game...and just how easy it was getting there.

Tube from Victoria to Upton Park.

Return Tube from Plaistow to Victoria (with a couple of changes) and Oxford Express from Victoria to Oxford.

OK. Arrived at the Boleyn after a 40 minute tube ride from Victoria after finishing early from work (at about 4:50). Met Neil at Monument, then onto West Ham. Arrived at Upton Park station at around 5:45 and walked the 3oo or so yards to the ground where we met up with more Oxford Hammers in the social club.

Entered the ground an hour before kick-off.

Bear in mind that the beer is cheaper before the game, but really expensive during and afterwards so if you just fancy a pint and a pie and a read of the programme you might want to try getting in, as it's quite quiet.

Duly beaten by Everton, we headed home via Plaistow tube. If you're new to the Boleyn, never queue at Green Street tube station.

Leave the ground [right] onto green street and then follow the hoard left into Selsden Road, Rochester Avenue (next to the market) and then follow Queens Road (past the queue for the tube) down to the bottom (4/500 yards). Cross the main road and just to the left is an alleyway called Lettsom Walk. That's another 2/300 yards. Plaistow tube is at the end.

Don't worry if you get lost. Just ask someone the way to Plaistow (pronounced plaastow!)

From there get on any tube heading west. You can pick up all the major routes to either Paddington or Victoria (depending on whether you're on the bus or the train.

On this occasion, we were spared extra-time and pens so arrived at the bus-stop (stop #11 I think) at Victoria at about 11:30 and then back home by 1am.
